As part of Montclair Township's initiative to reach out to the community in light of past public backlash of police excessive force incidents, The Montclair State Police department presented a week-long celebration to generate better community relations. The university's police department an extension of the township police, first community relations expo allowed community residents and students, including Mechi Brown, Senior Theater Studies major, and Black Student Union member, to speak with police on issues on excessive force. The program designed to restore and renew police and community relations became a start in repairing conflicting community opinions on police.
